Icometrix is a health technology company that develops software solutions for Medical imaging analysis. The company was founded in 2011 by Dirk Loeckx and Wim Van Hecke and is based in Leuven and Antwerp, Belgium
. It specializes in analyzing brain MRI and CT scans to quantify neurological disorders and keep track of & predict the progression of the disease. They are mainly focused on conditions such as multiple sclerosis (MS), Dementia & Alzheimer’s disease, Epilepsy, Traumatic brain injury (TBI), and Cerebro Vascular Accident (CVA), and have developed a product for each one of these conditions.
One of their product is Icobrain MS, made for Multiple Sclerosis analysis. Their algorithms are trained on large number of MRI scans to be able to recognize and segment MS-related lesions with high accuracy.
Icobrain MS Features
The software first preprocesses the MRI images to standardize them and enhance their quality. Then, uses “pixel-level segmentation” to identify Multiple Sclerosis lesions within the brain tissue. Pixel-level segmentation is a method in computer vision where individual pixels in an image are classified based on specific criteria using deep learning algorithms.
Quantification and Characterization
Once the lesions are segmented, Icobrain MS quantifies various characteristics of the lesions, such as their volume, shape, and spatial distribution. Then it analyzes this data to calculate metrics like lesion volume, lesion load (total volume of lesions), and lesion distribution across different brain regions.
Longitudinal Monitoring and Reporting
Icobrain MS facilitates longitudinal monitoring of disease progression by analyzing MRI scans obtained at different time periods. It tracks changes in lesion load, brain atrophy, and other disease-related metrics over time, providing clinicians with valuable data regarding disease progression.
The software also generates detailed reports and visualizations summarizing the key findings, which aid in clinical decision-making and treatment planning.
