The Paige Prostate Suite is a set of AI applications developed by Paige AI, made to streamline the review process of scanned whole-slide images from prostate needle biopsies. This suite includes Paige Prostate Detect, Paige Prostate Grade & Quantify, and Paige Prostate Perineural Invasion. It is the biggest AI support for prostate cancer diagnosis available in digital pathology. These AI tools assist pathologists in identifying suspicious areas in the slide images, helping make more accurate & quick diagnoses and treatment decisions.
So let’s discuss briefly each one of them.
Paige Prostate Detect
Paige Prostate Detect is the flagship component of the suite. It is an FDA-approved AI product in digital pathology designed specifically for primary diagnosis. This tool serves as an adjunct to the pathologist’s review, contributing to more accurate diagnoses.
It assists in the detection of suspicious cancerous foci by highlighting potential cancerous tissues for further review & evaluation by pathologists. It has high specificity (99.3%) and sensitivity (97.7%) in identifying potential areas of concern. It improved the detection of cancer on individual slide images by an average of 7.3% compared to unassisted reads by pathologists.
Paige Prostate Grade & Quantify
Paige Prostate Grade & Quantify complements the detection capabilities of Paige Prostate Detect by categorizing areas suspicious for cancer, based on Gleason pattern and providing quantitative analysis of tumor percentage and length.
As the name indicates, this AI application aids pathologists in the grading and quantification of prostate cancer, severity, and extent of prostate cancer within biopsy samples, helping make the appropriate treatment plan and assess prognosis.
It provides detailed slide-level information, including primary and secondary Gleason patterns, tumor length, and tumor percentage. This app has been validated on a set of 1,000 prostate images and has demonstrated high concordance in ISUP/Grade Group classification and strong correlation coefficients for tumor length and percentage.
Paige Prostate Peri-neural Invasion
Paige Prostate Peri-neural Invasion addresses the identification of peri-neural invasion (PNI), a potential indicator of disease aggressiveness. By analyzing nerve fibers within prostate tissue samples, this AI tool helps pathologists determine the presence or absence of suspicious foci around nerves which increases the cancer invasion and metastatic potential. The presence of PNI may suggest a more aggressive cancer and a less favorable prognosis.
